STORY#0082

Some of the key advantages of working on product concepts:

  1. It can help define the unique features and value proposition of the project, which can make it stand out from other similar projects and attract potential clients or investors.
  2. Through research of global trends, the product concept can be designed to incorporate the latest innovations and technologies, which can improve the functionality and sustainability of the project.
  3. A well-defined product concept can provide a clear direction for the design and construction of the project, allowing for better coordination and collaboration among the various teams involved.
  4. By combining innovative services, the product concept can offer unique and differentiated experiences to users, which can enhance their satisfaction and engagement with the project.
  5. The development of a product concept can also provide valuable insights into the market demand and potential competition, which can inform the business and marketing strategies for the project.
Context
Once upon a time, in the era of Catherine the Great, the first Orphanage was built in Moscow. The Orphanage was a place where abandoned children could find shelter and receive an education. It was founded on the ideas of Voltaire, who believed that education was the key to creating a better society.

The Orphanage thrived for many years, and the children who grew up there went on to lead successful lives. However, times changed and the building was taken over by the Military Academy, and a second carriage house was added to the property.

Later on, in 2017 a multidisciplinary team, that included architects, engineers, and historians, set out to create a new vision for the building, one that would preserve its history while also setting the course for a new future.

The building should be transformed into a modern, state-of-the-art facility that was ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century. Both periods' legacies were preserved, and a new chapter in its history began.
Collaboration with architects
The team was able to combine their diverse skills and expertise to address the challenge not only of preserving the authenticity of the volumes and materials, but also meets the highest requirements for housing in a modern city.

But with determination and hard work, we were able to carefully restore the second carriage house to its former glory, incorporating modern amenities and design elements.
The architects preserved the building's historic exterior and roof, but updated the interior façade and courtyard with modern designs.

The end result was a stunning blend of old and new, a true testament to the building's rich history and its bright future.

Collaboration with Interior designers
It was also critical to demonstrate the relationship of times in the finishing of public areas. The user journey of the new house's resident included a path from the historical ensemble of Tsarist Russia, through the halls, to the modern secret garden, which is visible through the first floor's bypass gallery.

In terms of apartment finishes, we provided two styles (classic and modern), each in two color combinations. Each of them had to support the notion that the building had progressed beyond the styles of classicism and art nouveau.

The complex, located in the city center, covers 11 hectares and features 150,000 square meters of buildings, including >100 branded residences, a Rosewood hotel, offices, a school, and public spaces. Product development for the high-end residential complex in Moscow provided the opportunity to bring together international teams of architects, designers, and advisers across three continents for the design and implementation phases.
